Somewhat interesting that today's Pythagorean Standings (scroll all the way to bottom) have the top 3 AL East teams right on their mark. Glad to see that the Yankees are number 1.

They also have a perfect Beane Count of 4.

Updated the weather page. Actually I just pasted in some code. So, yeah, today's pretty slow.

Any nervous feelings (agita!) I had about missing a day of work were quickly beaten away by a nice little hangover. Went to Spring Lounge first - my sister is in town and knew some people there (lots of NYU folk). Then off to some damn place that stays open late, has good beer, has a nice atmosphere, but has a name I can never remember because I usually get drunk there because I like it. My own personal Catch-22.

Don't know exactly how this happened but I ended up in Journal Square at dawn. Which sucked. I had to cab it back to Hoboken. Which sucked even more.

Then I woke up at 2:30, convinced that I just couldn't see the 1 before the 2.

But such was not the case and my "get-stuff-done" day is off to a hampered start. (So is my laundry, and it's going to stay right there.) Instead, today is "rearrange-the-room" day. I think I have a good idea of how to fit my bed and desk and tv into such a configuration that I can sit here and watch tv - and then kind of fall into bed late at night. Thanks to the Fuzzster for reminding that I can't watch tv so easily if it's behind me.

Speaking of Bass - FarSide has some odd pricing going on. Most bartenders charge $4 for a pint of Bass - and you get a free one after about 4 or, usually, 5 rounds.

But recently, the dude with the small goatee has been bartending. And he charges $4.50 for a pint - but the third round is free.

I haven't been able to stay around (what with work the next morning usually) to see if the sixth round is free as well.

# of drinksUsual Price/beer - 5th rnd
free (4th rnd free)
New Guy Price/beer
1$4 ($4)$4.50
2$4 ($4)$4.50
3$4 ($4)$3
4$4 ($3)$3.38
5$3.20 ($3.20)$3.60
6$4 ($3.33)$3

Summary - if you're a wuss and only getting 1-2 drinks, hope for $4 rounds, b/c you're getting nothing free.

3 drinks and that's it - hope for $4.50 pints w/ the last round free.

4 drinks - hope for $4 pints and a loose bartender who's looking for good tips.

5 drinks - either way, $4 drinks are better.

6 drinks - $4.50 pints, w/ liberal free rounds.

That's all I have to look into it now. Thanks to my Bass-drinking adversary for providing the code for the table. (Better?)

My Bass-drinking friend is complaining (whining, even) that I don't have a comments section. Which is fair enough - everyone should have the chance to defend themselves. In this case, my Bass-drinking friend's comments may even be funny (they certainly won't be true).

So, if anyone knows how to put in a comments section, please let me know.

BTW, it's hot and nasty in my office - so niceties are not in order.

This is a gloating post.

Went to FarSide with Colleen and the Fuzzster last night. This was right after going to the gym (HAC) with Colleen to get a pass so that I could check it out.

Over beers we made plans to leave for HAC in the morning. Colleen left early (early!) to go to sleep. I stayed and had some more beer w/ the Fuzzster.

Yet, at 6am (6am!) I was up and dressed and called Colleen. No response - called again at 6:15am. No response. So I went running around Hoboken.

I will make no conclusions (other than the title) because I believe, dear readers (that's both of you), that you can make your own.

That's such a great term.

Fucking Texans - still pissed.

This is what started the whole dieting post idea. That and over a couple of beers, I started loudly suggesting that I'm going to go to the gym. Wednesday morning, baby.

My sister is in town this week - very exciting. I think I'm going to a fundraiser for some dude running the Boston Marathon on Thursday (like $4 or something if you want to come). Then Newark Bears on Sunday. Rickey!

Holy Shit! 3 Posts!

On estimating your basic metabolic rate by the Harris-Benedict Formula:

Adult male: 66 + (6.3 x body weight in lbs.) + (12.9 x height in inches) - (6.8 x age in years)

Me: 66 + (6.3*175) + (12.9*73) - (6.8*25) = 66 + 1102.5 + 941.7 - 170 = 1940.2 calories per day.

Though I've heard this is flawed (from a very knowledgeable, Bass-drinking source) because it doesn't take in body mass index - or something all scientific like that.

However, after my bitching that a 2,000 calorie diet is just a flawed assumption, this pretty much says it is correct for me.

Here is a chart of Calories Burned During Excercise. My Bass-drinking friends says they are probably a little high.

Though here's a nice little bonus from the howstuffworks article.

The thermic effect of food is the final addition to the number of calories your body burns. This is the amount of energy your body uses to digest the food you eat -- it takes energy to break food down to its basic elements in order to be used by the body. To calculate the number of calories you expend in this process, multiply the total number of calories you eat in a day by 0.10, or 10 percent. If you need some help determining how many calories you eat in a day, check out these sites:

Some updating - you know, to keep things in order.

* Second night in new bed - hungover - don't remember why.
* Third night in new bed - only slept 4 hours - went upstate early to help Dad.
* Fourth night in new bed - slight headache from Farside/late Yankee game
* Fifth night in new bed - today - slight hangover from Old E. But on a good note, we don't have any more 40's in the fridge.

I'll be sure to go out tonight b/c it looks like I have a decent streak going on.

M&M Counting
Results from the two previous M&M bags:

Bag 1

    R: 7
    O: 5 + 1 broken
    Y: 10 + 1 broken
    G: 11
    Bl: 6
    Br: 16
Total: 56 (where broken counts as a half)

Bag 2

    R: 13
    O: 8
    Y: 9
    G: 5
    Bl: 5
    Br: 18
    Total: 58

Looks like brown has the early lead, overpowering all challengers, including a strong push from red in the second round. Please excuse my boss for having taken two brown M&M's from the second bag before I could take a picture. My boss thinks I'm nuts because I order my M&M's before eating them. She doesn't like that I usually don't eat them - but leave them on the desk - where everyone else eats them.

I decided to start working summer hours of four 10-hour days. Some thoughts on that: I started out with an 11-hour day, not too bad, I can deal with it because there's enough work to do. However, in the back of my mind I'm worried that I will have to work on Friday for some reason (deadline, emergency, etc). Besides, I like taking days off, but I'm always worried that something will get seriously screwed up. (Not that I necessarily run the place, I just worry - nothing like obsessing).

Also, if I didn't mention it earlier, I made it over 400 unique visitors to the homepage, as shown here. I'm almost up to 450 - I don't remember how this corresponds to my original guesstimates for growth - and I don't feel like looking for it at the moment. Thanks to all, and if you come to the UberPlexer, be sure to visit the homepage, so that I can later stroke my ego.

Speaking of trackers, I emailed the company that does the tracker, saying that I wanted to track the whole site, and at the same time, leave the little button on the homepage - so that people can see the summary. (Apparently, the button on the homepage is a function of having the free service, and it doesn't need to be there if you pay for it). But those bastards never got back to me. I figured the whole point of having a free service was to get people to check it out, and then pay if they liked it. Apparently that's not their business model. Stupid internet.

Enough!

I don't know why this is so funny. But it's rather cheeky for pre-10am tomfoolery.

Also, here are some m&m pictures: 1, 2, 3, 4. I'll count them up soon enough. I think my coworkers don't like it that I buy m&m's and don't eat them all.

Man, oh man are digital cameras great.

And just as a final note, went to the Yankee game the other night - the nice, long 12-inning Roger Clemens one. It was good stuff except for the group of Texans sitting behind us. Some gems:

- Oh it was a real nice place. Great restaurant, sort of like a Chili's. [D'oh, I'd not heard "great restaurant" and "Chili's" in the same sentence before.]
- See, that's why Nolan Ryan was a better pitcher. [After Roger gives up a hit and a walk - which was about all he gave up for the whole game.]

They certainly helped make the night less than perfect. Stupid Texans.

ccampbel78: how do you define "dating"
ccampbel78: what are the different stages, etc
sdkfjla: Hmmm...
ccampbel78: i always find it interesting how different people define different things
sdkfjla: First stage: drinking. Second stage: drinking too much. Third stage: making out in the bathroom. Fourth stage: going back to their apt. Fifth stage: fucking. Sixth stage: puking. Seventh stage: waking up, disoriented. Eight stage: trying to get home w/o waking her up. Ninth stage: lying about why you were leaving. Tenth stage: begrudingly making future plans. Eleventh stage: dating.
sdkfjla: Or something along those lines.

Fridays at work, suck.

For Brent: scroll down to the last review on Amazon's page regarding Bowling for Columbine (June 8, 2003 entry). We watched Bowling for Columbine last night out on Pier A. I first saw the documentary in NYC when it came out (sometime last year). What struck me was that an entire audience went from laughing to dead, awkward silence in about 5 minutes. I forget what the laughter was for (I think this movie is much funnier in NYC, b/c of the distance from a lot of the culture references), but the dead silence was a sequence showing how the US has funded terrorist/dictator regimes, culminating in the September 11th tragedy. It was so close the first time I saw it that everyone was tearing up. The sequence is put to Louis Armstrong's "What A Wonderful World," which was used in the same capacity in the movie "Good Morning, Vietnam." In any case, once again watching this scene was the most powerful, especially with NYC and its altered view as a backdrop.

A movie to make you think.
